A full Moon!

One thing I love about Haiti is that at any moment, even in the simplest of circumstances something amazing can happen.

Every Saturday morning I force myself to get out of bed early to be at the orphanage devotion, which starts at 7:30am. On a Saturday! Did I say that already?!? I can only blame myself though as I was the one who planned it, and to be honest it has become one of my favourite activities and is worth the early morning.

All the kids and staff gather together in Maggie's Kitchen to worship together, pray together, grow spiritually and then close with a family meeting where we cover things going on in the upcoming week. The kids lead worship which is AWESOME and myself, Kenol or one of our staff members usually shares a mini message of some sort.

This week, the kids were all excited because they each got a piece of candy on their way out of the kitchen.  I don’t know if it was the sugar, something in the air, or the chance they might get a second piece of candy but instead of going down to play in the gym, or home to do chores a bunch of the kids stayed back and hung out for a while. I sat down on the curb outside the kitchen with Kara-Lynn, Katie and Kenol was around somewhere too. We sat and talked with the kids, joked around and were having a great time when one of the kids decided we should have races. Great idea! To be safe we had two kids race at a time. I sat on the curb at the top of the sidewalk and had both runners hold my hand as I said, “On your mark, get set, go!” When I would throw their hands up and they would run as fast as they could down the sidewalk, around the tree and back up to us. They were loving it! We were loving just watching them fly down the hill arms flailing around with sweat pouring off their faces. After a good 20 races or so little Jeremiah came wandering up the race track, as two of the older kids zoomed past him he got all excited and decided to run too. He ran as fast as his little legs could take him. With every step his Thomas pj bottoms drooped a little bit lower. When he got to the “finish line” one of the older kids ran over, picked him and spun him around to celebrate his big win. We were all clapping and watching him twirl around when all of a sudden those little Thomas pj bottoms gave way and Jeremiah mooned the entire cheering section! Oh how I wish I would have had my camera, it was one of the funniest moments I have experienced in my 29 years on this earth!

Peace, love and a full moon,

Rachel
